Happy Birthday to Me!

People     |    April 9th, 2013

Well today marks my 24th birthday. Just one more year until I hit that quarter century mark! And what better way to celebrate than by blogging about it?

I’ve always viewed my birthday as the true start to my new year and 24 is no different. This time last year, life as I had come to know it had completely unraveled and I was in no place to celebrate the passing of another year. So, in order to counteract the negativity surrounding last year’s birthday, I am attempting to overcompensate this time around with multiple birthday festivities.

Last week, my good friend Roseann (of The Naked Rose blog) and I celebrated our April birthdays early (we were born 363 days apart!) by baking a gorgeous and delicious cake from scratch. You can read more about our joint endeavor here. It was a perfect evening of conversation, exchanging gifts and good food.

Tonight, my dad and stepmom are taking me out to a birthday dinner and if tradition serves, most likely bringing home my favorite dessert of all time, a delicious fruit tart from Ettore’s European Bakery. The owner is originally from Switzerland and brought his European pastry skills here to Sacramento. It helps keep our European pastry deprivation to a minimum.

Wednesday night I’m looking forward to a night out on the town in Sacramento followed by a Thursday night dinner in San Francisco with my bay area friends. I’m finding myself more and more grateful for such outings the older we all get. Many of my friends have already moved to other cities, gotten married or involved in serious relationships and even begun starting families. It makes the time we have to spend together all the more special.
