Camp Baby Shower

Events     |    January 10th, 2017

Baby fever is a real and contagious ailment. One that afflicts even those of us who are years and years away from kiddos of our own. Thankfully (for me), my cousin Taylor and his wife Victoria (who you may recognize from her Breakfast at Tiffany’s themed Bridal Shower) are expecting their first child, a little girl named Eleanor Winter Turner.

Welcome to Camp Turner

Together with my cousin Brooke (sister of the dad-to-be), we set out to plan a shower for Baby E that was fun, gender neutral, non-traditional and as adventurous as her parents’ spirit.

Taylor and Victoria have always loved the outdoors in all its forms. Whether it’s a dinner party under the stars, a weekend traversing the Ozarks, or a simple walk along the trails in Dallas, they know how to make every experience into an adventure. The pair even spent their honeymoon tucked away in a snowy Colorado cabin.

Their love for nature and exploration is certain to be passed onto their children and Brooke and I decided it was the perfect concept for their shower.

The Food

What does one serve at a camp themed event that isn’t a corndog or sloppy joe? We did our best to keep on theme, while limiting the grease factor. The trail mix bar was a party favorite. Guests were able to custom blend their own snack sack with various nuts, dried fruits, grains, and sweets. Everyone left with a filled bag of tasty trail mix as favors.

The Activities

Brooke and I wanted games and entertainment kept simple and unobtrusive. In addition to table games such as Jack’s and Tiddlywinks, we created a few different ‘craft’ stations. At the tent, which I built with design input from my fiancé, guests grabbed fabric markers to draw, doodle, and decorate the canvas sides. In another spot, everyone was encouraged to write their well wishes for the happy family, while coloring sheets were laid out throughout the party. Brooke and I then gathered everyone’s notes and drawings into a book which we will gift them on Eleanor’s 1st birthday.

The Parents-to-Be!

It was such a pleasure to celebrate Miss Eleanor Winter Turner. The countdown to her arrival has begun and the family is already taking bets! I’ve guessed February 14…isn’t that romantic?
