Another year wiser…maybe

Yet another birthday has come and gone and with it the reminder that I’m running out of time to complete that whole 30 before 30 goals list I should have already started. To be continued…
This year I celebrated my actual birthday with my entire family at my cousin Josh’s wedding in New Braunfels, Texas. Definitely a memorable weekend! However, a week later, my (other) cousin Taylor and his wife Victoria hosted a belated birthday dinner in my honor at their lovely home.
Words and photos hardly do the evening justice. In front of Victoria and Taylor’s home is a large grassy lot where a house burned down years ago. As such, they have ample outdoor space for entertaining. As we drove up, I could see cushions and a low table covered in twinkling candles and flowers, while overhead they had strung lights for after dark.
Our friends said they drove by the house and thought ‘Wow, they’re going to have an amazing dinner party,’ before realizing that it was the very one they were invited to!
When I arrived, Victoria presented me with the loveliest flower crown, which she hand assembled. With pink and purple carnations and a touch of dark blue thistle, it was a perfect complement to my entire ensemble. Someone seems to know me very well…
But of course, what good is a flower crown if it doesn’t match the cake? Oh, the cake. A delicate vanilla sponge was surrounded by the dense sweetness of a vanilla bean buttercream. Absolute heaven.
Victoria also made the most amazing Marrakech White Sangria with a recipe from the West Elm Blog. It had grapes, figs, fresh mint, edible rosebuds and a touch of St. Germain. For dinner we had an Italian feast with homemade pesto pasta, strawberry salad and plenty of wine.
The entire evening was absolutely incredible and left me feeling like the brightest star in the night sky. I am so thankful to have such a fun, supportive and talented family. Thank you again to Taylor and Victoria for all your hard work throwing me such a magical birthday dinner. Love you both so much!
Here’s to another year of growth, joy and new experiences.
